Jessica Patterson: Hello! My name is Jessica Patterson, also known as The Frequent Artist. I’m a visual artist from Louisiana that started my creative journey in my teens and continuously explores newer ideas to create new projects. I’ve always been a creative kid and would often start focusing on ways to occupy my time during my school years after finishing my homework or playing some video games during the weekends. I would carry a sketchbook and fill those pages with drawings of familiar characters from comics. I loved to draw but wanted to learn more techniques and build my skills to become a better artist. I was inspired to paint from my love of the fine arts and the curiosity of expanding my knowledge of the arts. Graphic design became my focus when I returned to college to pursue my bachelor’s degree in graphic design. Every type of design principle I acquired through study or work became pivotal in building my confidence to explore creatively moving forward.

Jessica Patterson: I needed a username when I started online for basic browsing or gaming and loved the name, so it stuck. Also the amount of art I was working on and actually posting online into social media pages was weekly. I often would think, “Am I posting too frequently?” The name just fit for the context of everything happening during the early 2000’s.

Jessica Patterson: Before going to college to learn design later in my creative journey I relied on intuition and my imagination to explore possibilities no matter the risk. I knew the limits at the start but that was the exciting part. No apprehension or real limitation on how or what to make. I also could spend as much time as I needed just learning how to work independently at my own pace. I still continue to pace myself when coming up with new ideas for pieces but still remember to have fun in my creative endeavors no matter the scale of each project.

Jessica Patterson: I’ve had the time to build my reputation as an artist gradually over the years which has allowed better options for the long term. The challenges happen when I’m pursuing larger projects which can always come with drawbacks. Time is a constant struggle but I think learning how to manage a schedule around set time is important when building ideas. The idea of building a foundation to start often came with its own set of challenges as well. For the foundation to actually start growing I had to understand that time would allow a structure of ideas to build successfully over the years. This is necessary to allow myself to grow as an artist.

Jessica Patterson: Expression. I’ve always approached art the way I perceive life. Life is abundant with challenges but often reflective of the time remaining during that week or month. Everyday can feel redundant or move around continuously without breaks. As seasons change so do my ideas and often what I’ve learned the year prior is reflective in my present days. I celebrate life to the best of my ability and always keep in mind to have fun with every new project. The colors flow on my canvas with purpose and with intent to explore newer possibilities in my creative process.
