A Journey Built on Growth

We wanted to begin by learning about Sarahrose’s professional journey and the experiences that have shaped her career in sales, marketing, and leadership.

Sarahrose Anderson: My career has centered around sales, marketing, leadership, and developing people. On the side, I am also a writer, and an animator who loves storytelling. I graduated from Philadelphia University (now known as Thomas Jefferson University) and earned my bachelor’s degree in Animation & Digital Media in 2021. Directly out of college, I secured a position as a junior marketing associate at Employee Support Services where I produced and optimized multimedia marketing content for their online home care training program. Shortly after, I entered sales at Opulent Solutions Group and worked my way up into leadership. I quickly became an Assistant Director there, where I led recruiting, onboarding, and development of more than 15 team members, helping my team generate $2.2M in annual revenue for NRG Energy. Currently, I work at Green Star Exteriors where I help members in BJ’s proactively protect and improve their homes by connecting them with free quotes on roofing, windows, siding, and doors. In addition to serving customers, I mentor and develop new team members so they can grow into confident professionals.

My creative background has strengthened my communication and leadership skills by teaching me how to tell compelling stories, understand different perspectives, and build meaningful connections with people.

Discovering a Passion for Sales & Leadership

With a career spanning sales, marketing, and leadership, we were curious to know what initially inspired Sarahrose to follow this path.

Sarahrose Anderson: I am the type of person that loves helping people, learning about who they are at their core, and creating an environment where they can feel safe enough to learn, grow, and thrive. Sales and leadership are roles that fully embrace those ideals. As a salesperson, the goal is to help as many people as possible by showing them how they can improve their lives with your product or service. As a leader, I strongly believe in not only telling your team what to do, but showing them how to do it. Leaders must lead from the front by creating an environment where their team members can utilize their strengths, grow through their weaknesses, and therefore become the best version of themselves.

Leadership Values That Make a Difference

Strong leadership is built on clear values. We asked Sarahrose about the principles that have consistently guided her throughout her professional journey.

Sarahrose Anderson: Two core principles have guided my career:

“Build the people and the people will build the business” and “Train your team well enough that they can leave. Treat them well enough that they don’t want to.”

Those ideas have shaped my entire leadership foundation because people perform at their best when they know they can ask questions, make mistakes, and continue learning without feeling judged.

Inspiring High-Performing Teams

Leading high-performing teams requires more than achieving targets. We asked Sarahrose how she motivates her team to stay engaged and perform at their best.

Sarahrose Anderson: I keep my team motivated by being genuinely supportive of them when they’re going through a rough time and reminding them of their unique strengths. I also offer meaningful rewards catered to their interests such as buying lunch, monetary bonuses, or other prizes. In addition, I encourage some friendly competition to help them capitalize on their strengths and boost their confidence in a fun way!

Turning Challenges into Opportunities

Every successful career comes with its share of challenges. We asked Sarahrose to reflect on one of the biggest obstacles she has faced and how she navigated through it.

Sarahrose Anderson: The biggest challenge for me was learning how to balance taking care of myself with taking care of my team. Sometimes I would overextend myself in order to make sure my team was properly supported. I overcame this by recognizing that I cannot help others until I help myself, so I became more intentional about protecting myself and my well-being. I made sure I scheduled in personal time as if it were a meeting or important event. That way, I ensure my own cup is full so I can effectively pour into the cups of others.

The Power of Effective Communication

Effective communication is often the foundation of strong leadership. We asked Sarahrose how it contributes to building productive and successful teams.

Sarahrose Anderson: Transparent communication is one of the most important foundations of a successful team because it builds trust. It is important to communicate as openly as possible with your team because it helps them understand the bigger picture. When the team knows exactly what’s going on and what to expect, there’s no guessing or uncertainty. They know what they need to do and how to do it efficiently. More importantly, uncertainty creates unnecessary fear and anxiety. People naturally fill in the gaps with assumptions that are often worse than the actual outcome.

Clear expectations reduce uncertainty, build trust, and allow people to perform with confidence.

Advice for Future Leaders

Drawing from her leadership experience, we asked Sarahrose what guidance she would offer professionals preparing to take on leadership responsibilities.

Sarahrose Anderson: Don’t be afraid to admit your mistakes. You are a human being and accountability is the greatest gift you can give to someone. Leadership isn’t about being the smartest person in the room. It’s about helping other people become their best. Your team does not expect you to be perfect, they just need to know that you have their backs. People are willing to follow someone who is authentic, accountable, and committed to their success rather than someone who appears as though they know all of the answers.
