For more than two decades, Mariella Bonelli has helped people navigate one of the most powerful tools in human connection: language. As the founder of Studio Bonelli and Relocation Concierge, she has built a career dedicated to bridging cultures, removing communication barriers, and supporting international clients through important life and business transitions. Combining linguistic expertise with a deeply personal approach to client service, she believes that successful communication goes beyond words and is rooted in trust, understanding, and human connection. In this exclusive interview with The Leaders 360, Mariella shares her journey, the vision behind her businesses, and valuable insights into translation, relocation, and building meaningful cross-cultural relationships.
A Passion for Languages and Communication
We were interested in learning more about what inspired Mariella Bonelli’s professional journey, so we asked her to briefly introduce herself and share the experiences that shaped her path.
Mariella Bonelli: When I was fifteen, I spent some time in England to improve my English. One day, I was invited to a small party where I met younger international students who spoke English remarkably well. On another occasion, I met some young Italian students who had previously studied in France and had just arrived in England to continue their studies. I was fascinated by them, especially because international study experiences were much less common at that time.
I remember lying in bed one evening and having a real moment of clarity: I wanted to master English, and I understood that foreign languages had to become part of my life. Today, in addition to Italian, my native language, I speak English, German and French.
I kept that promise to myself. Over the years, my passion for languages developed into a professional career in translation and interpreting. I eventually established Studio Bonelli, where I help people communicate across languages and cultures, often during important and sometimes challenging moments in their lives.
The Vision Behind Studio Bonelli
We wanted to understand what motivated Mariella Bonelli to establish Studio Bonelli and the vision that guided its creation, so we asked her to share the story behind the business.
Mariella Bonelli: When I established Studio Bonelli, I had a clear intuition: I wanted to be a bridge between people who spoke different languages and came from different cultural backgrounds.
In the 1990s, when I was studying and beginning to imagine my professional future, the kind of integrated service I had in mind practically did not exist. I wanted to offer people concrete support through written translations, interpreting and personal assistance, helping them communicate and manage situations in which language could otherwise become a barrier.
Today, Studio Bonelli can provide services in approximately ten languages through my team, while I personally work in Italian, English, French and German. This multilingual capacity allows us to support clients from different countries with continuity and cultural sensitivity.
My vision was rooted in both language and human connection. I have always found contact with people from different nationalities deeply enriching. Every day brings new situations, new perspectives and new opportunities to learn. This variety has shaped my professional journey and continues to make my work meaningful.

Milestones in Entrepreneurship
Throughout her entrepreneurial journey, Mariella Bonelli has achieved several important milestones, so we asked her to reflect on the experiences that have shaped her growth and success.
Mariella Bonelli: One of the most significant steps in my journey was moving from working mainly for translation agencies, as I did at the beginning of my career, to working exclusively with direct clients. I have now been working in this way for many years.
Building direct relationships with clients has been extremely rewarding. It has allowed me to understand their needs more deeply, to offer a more personal and consistent service, and to follow their projects with greater continuity. I particularly enjoy working directly with international clients because every relationship brings a new cultural perspective and often develops into a relationship of trust that goes well beyond a single assignment.
Another important milestone was recognising that my experience could respond to needs extending beyond translation and interpreting. That insight eventually led to the creation of Relocation Concierge, a new and distinct service launched as a registered brand in 2026.
The Story Behind Relocation Concierge
We were interested in learning how Relocation Concierge came into being, so we asked Mariella Bonelli to explain what inspired the service and how it supports international clients moving to Italy.
Mariella Bonelli: For many years, part of my work involved providing legal translations and interpreting services to foreign investors purchasing property in Italy. In those situations, I noticed that their needs continued well beyond the purchase itself.
Once they had acquired a property, they often needed support as they settled into life in Italy. They had to navigate bureaucratic procedures in a language they did not speak fluently, find reliable professionals and establish trusted contacts in their new local community.
I naturally began offering help whenever I saw them facing these difficulties. Over time, I realised that this type of assistance deserved to become a dedicated service. This led me to create Relocation Concierge, a registered brand launched in 2026.
The service is based on my experience, my knowledge of the Italian system and my network of carefully selected local contacts. Its purpose is to provide continuity and reassurance, helping international clients manage the practical aspects of relocating to Italy with greater confidence.
Navigating the Challenges of Relocation
Having worked closely with people relocating to a new country, we asked Mariella Bonelli about the most common challenges individuals face during this transition.
Mariella Bonelli: Relocating to another country involves much more than finding a home. People have to understand unfamiliar procedures, deal with bureaucracy, communicate in a different language and identify reliable professionals. Even simple tasks can become complicated when you do not know the system or lack trusted local contacts. For this reason, trust is essential. Clients need to feel that someone is genuinely by their side, accompanying them through the process and helping them find solutions when unexpected issues arise.
I believe in taking care of people as human beings. This means listening carefully, responding promptly and offering support that is both practical and personal. It also means connecting clients with reliable local professionals whom I know personally and whose way of working I trust.
I have followed clients from the moment they arrived in Italy until they took possession of their home and became Italian residents. In one case, they later moved to another country, and I helped them close their outstanding matters in Italy even after they had relocated. From their new country, and with limited knowledge of Italian, they would have found many of these bureaucratic procedures extremely difficult to manage alone.
Defining Success
We wanted to understand how Mariella Bonelli measures success in both her professional and personal life, so we asked her to share her perspective.
Mariella Bonelli: For me, success means organising my work efficiently so that it does not take over my life. I try to be highly responsive and to answer clients promptly, because they value reliability and timely communication. At the same time, I make sure to preserve time for myself and for the people who matter most to me. I work out regularly because exercise helps me reduce stress, build confidence, support my mental health and maintain a better quality of life. I have always considered it essential to have meaningful time with my family, and especially quality time with my husband and my daughters.
I have worked hard to build a professional life that allows me to be present in my personal life as well. That balance is what I consider true success.
Advice for Language Professionals
We were interested in hearing Mariella Bonelli’s advice for aspiring translators, interpreters, and language professionals, so we asked what guidance she would offer to those entering the field.
Mariella Bonelli: I would advise anyone who wants to work independently to follow their natural inclinations and choose a clearly defined professional direction. Once they have identified their area, they should develop deep expertise in that specific field. In today’s market, being a generalist is often less effective than building a clear specialisation. Vertical expertise helps professionals distinguish themselves and offer real value to their clients.
At the same time, it is essential to listen actively to the market and to understand how the profession and clients’ needs are evolving. Independent professionals need to remain adaptable and be ready to develop new skills or adjust their services when circumstances change.
Working autonomously in this sector requires expertise, flexibility, resilience and the ability to keep learning. Without these qualities, it can be difficult to respond effectively to the speed at which the market is changing.
