Operation Sindoor: India Strikes Terror Camps in Pakistan After Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi, May 7, 2025In a significant military development, India initiated ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the early hours of May 6, targeting nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This action was in direct response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

The Indian Armed Forces employed precision missile strikes on locations identified as terror infrastructure associated with groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Key targets included Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Muzaffarabad. The Ministry of Defence emphasized that the operation was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” aiming solely at terrorist facilities without engaging Pakistani military assets.

The operation resulted in significant casualties among terrorist elements. Sources indicate that over 80 militants were neutralized, with approximately 25 to 30 eliminated at both Bahawalpur and Muridke sites.

International reactions have been marked by concern over the escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for restraint, while the United States and China urged both nations to avoid further escalation.

Domestically, the Indian government has received widespread support for the operation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that ‘Operation Sindoor’ was a necessary step to safeguard national security. The Indian Army and Air Force are scheduled to provide further details in a press briefing later today.

As the situation remains volatile, both nations have suspended diplomatic engagements, and border areas are on high alert. The international community continues to monitor developments closely, emphasizing the need for dialogue and de-escalation to prevent further conflict.
